Hawthorn remains one of the more popularly used botanical medicines for heart conditions throughout Europe. European studies have demonstrated that use of hawthorn can support overall heart health by relaxing and dilating arteries, increasing the flow of blood and oxygen to and from the heart, supporting healthy circulation, increasing endurance, memory function, healthy blood pressure and blood vessels and giving a new zest for life.

The effects of hawthorn as a heart tonic are gentle and best achieved over time. Hawthorn has been shown to be safe for long-term use, with no known toxic side effects and with no known interactions with prescriptions drugs.

Hawthorn has also been known to relieve occasional problems with digestion, sleeplessness due to nervous tension, and sore throats.

Shake bottle well, loosen cap and gently squeeze until measure is in gauge then mix 5ml to 1 litre of water. Add to water drinkers for 14 days and every other day thereafter.

Racing Plan.

Give this for 14 consecutive days to build the effect up into your birds system followed by every other day. You must be prepared to adjust the dosage to your own observation.

Crateagus Oxyc; Hawthorn is a thorny tree with bright red berries that thrives in hedgerows and fields in Europe and the British Isles.

Action; Hawthorn's actions come from the berries, flowers and leaves. The total complex of plant constituents is considered valuable as a remedy for those with circulatory and cardiac problems. It is believed to regulate and support these systems and be beneficial to use in the following conditions:

* Angina - Believed to give relief from cramp-like symptoms.

* Mild congestive heart failure - Believed to increase cardiac output and increase the flow of blood through the coronary arteries.

* Arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) - Thought to counteract rhythm disturbances.

* High blood pressure - Believed to cause vasodilatation of peripheral blood vessels and lower blood pressure.

* Nervous Heart Disorders (palpitations) - Believed to have a sedative effect on the nervous system which may render it useful in heart conditions where the nerves are involved.

* Heart Weakness - as caused by infectious diseases e.g. pneumonia, scarlet fever and diphtheria. Is believed to restore and support heart function.

Equisetum; Horsetail is a direct descendant of the giant fern-like plants that covered the Earth some 400 million years ago. Today a much smaller version of this prehistoric perennial (returns each year), resembling asparagus, can be found growing in moist or sandy soil along shady streams and creeks in early spring. The hollow stems and shoots of horsetail are a rich source of naturally occurring calcium, magnesium, potassium, and other valuable nutrients, including silica crystals. Many of the medicinal properties of horsetail can be attributed to its high silica content, which is easily absorbed by the body.

Action; Something that many people may not know is that the silica in Equisetum also acts on lipid metabolism, resulting in an anti-athermanous action that helps guard against fatty deposits in the arteries! Europeans have been using Equisetum for atherosclerosis for years. It is invaluable in combinations for toning the urinary tract; supporting the heart and cleansing the bowel. This herb has potential cleansing properties in addition to all of its healing actions.

Viola Tricola; A small, short-lived, perennial (returns each year) herb with heart-shaped leaves and small three-coloured, or single coloured flowers.

Action; Has a long history of use in herbalism. It has been recommended among other uses, as a treatment for chest complaints such as bronchitis and whooping cough.
